GDC’s Managing Director, Chris Mitchell, joined ‘Bright Futures Group’, a catering company who owned ‘Yes Dining!’

November, 2010

6 months in, 'Yes Dining!' was struggling and needed investment. Chris approached Luke Johnson, the force behind the expansion of PizzaExpress,Patisserie Valerie and Gail's Artisan Baker

Luke Johnson

A well-known entrepreneur in the hospitality industry, responsible for taking PizzaExpress from 12 venues to more than 250 as well as being part-owner of Patisserie Valerie and Gail's. He owns bakeries Flour Power City and Baker & Spice and also hold majority stakes in the 3Sixty Restaurants chain, as well asbeing chairman of Gaucho Restaurants and part owner of The Draft House pub group.

November, 2010

Within 24 hours of contacting Luke, the appropriate funding was received and the contract drawn up.

January, 2011

Chris wanted to change the company from a low-budget, no-quality caterer to something worlds apart: what The Genuine Dining Co. now represents, a complete love and embrace of food. This involved a complete rebranding, and a relaunch with Chris as both Owner and Managing Director at the age of just 31. Cue the company’s rebirth!.

July, 2011

Luke's influence proves to be invaluable in determining the latest and greatest in high street trends, as his contribution of such a wealth of experience and knowledge allows us to remain ahead of the game, going from strength to strength.

Feburary, 2012

Chow Down street food was launched offering our customers something tasty, inspired by a different corner of the earth every week.

July, 2012

Genuine Hotels was born with the launch of our very first hotel, a grand Victorian mansion located in Maidstone, Kent. In 2015, the 80 bedroomed wedding and conference centre Penyard House Hotel in Gloucester was added to the Genuine Hotels brand.

April, 2013

Genuine Events was born! Hosting conferences, weddings and events across London and the South for clients including Pinewood Studios, Virgin, and our biggest fan, Luke Johnson.

September, 2013

Birth of Team Velo: GDC’s annual charity bike ride from London to Paris, involving a daunting 280km of cycling, a comfy overnight stay on a juddering ferry floor, and a whole lot of getting lost (and a little bit of drinking too...)

October 2014

All the hard work pays off – We won a Foodservice Catey for Innovation – the industry’s equivalent of the Oscars (pretty big time, guys) – saw us nominated for both Best Newcomer, and Best Use of Technology for our savviness with all things geeky!
