On Wednesday 28th June, we hosted the first ever Genuine Chef competition final, and we would like to thank everyone who was involved in making the whole event such a huge success!
The finalists with Chris: Ben Gibson (Head Chef), Dave Spence (Head Chef), Manas Sardar (Head Chef), Hannah Williams (Senior Chef De Partie), Tom Bunting (Junior Sous Chef), Alex Robert Pollard (Head Chef).
On the night, guests watched on as six of our amazing chefs worked tirelessly to prepare a two-course meal costing less that £10, in under 90 minutes. The judges were blown away not only by the high quality of the cooking but also the level of innovation and originality; each dish was unique and showcased the fantastic ability of all our Genuine Chefs. The judges had the impossible task of choosing the winner and after much deliberation Tom Bunting was crowned the winner of GenChef 2017!
He wowed the judges with a main course of rump of lamb with a celeriac fondant & puree, salt baked beetroot, roasted chantenay carrots, asparagus tips with a rich lamb jus. Following this was caramelized white chocolate mousse with chocolate soil, poached strawberries and shard meringue for dessert.
Judge Gillian Thomson from Act Clean, was amazed by the chefs creativity and originality since each of the dishes was unique and cost less than £10! She was also impressed by the comradery of the finalists, and the whole spirt of the competition.
Huge congratulations to Tom and all the finalists. We can’t wait for next year’s competition!
