I recently saw an article in the Evening Standard about The Felix Project and it piqued my interest to learn more. I read on and learnt that the work they do is a valuable part of giving something back to society, simply put, they collect fresh nutritious food that cannot be sold and deliver it to charities so they can provide healthy meals to help the most vulnerable in our society.
This, I thought, would appeal to Group Genuine and I set about arranging an introduction.
A couple of weeks later we found ourselves in Hayes, volunteering in their distribution warehouse, sorting through a seemingly endless arrival of food donations -thrilling in one sense as it would be going to a great cause, terrifying in another at the vast scale of unsold food, otherwise destined for the bin.
What struck me was the scale of operation already built up by this young charity. They have taken the collective problem of food waste and turned it into a worthy cause for good. The amount of deliveries coming and going was testament to the success achieved. But speaking with the charity, it’s evident they are only scraping the surface with millions more people going hungry while we throw away tonnes of fresh food every day.
Group Genuine has now partnered with The Felix Project with our staff volunteering on a regular basis to help collect and distribute food to the most vulnerable.
We are proud of the work we do to reduce our food waste and we are constantly innovating the ways in which we work to reduce our footprint. Our staff share this passion and with our partnership with The Felix Project we enjoy our work with the helping those less fortunate.
